He is an extremely intelligent and popular, but bored young man who finds the Death Note dropped by the Shinigami Ryuk by pure chance. In the Japanese version of the anime, he is voiced by Mamoru Miyano, and in the English version by Brad Swaile.★ L Lawliet (エル・ローライト), widely known by the letter L (エル), is the main antagonist in the manga and anime series Death Note by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. Considered the world's greatest detective, he lives in secrecy. During the story, he acts as the main antagonist to Light Yagami, otherwise known as the mass-murderer "Kira". However, his popularity as a character inspired the release of a spin-off live-action film L: Change the World and a novel adaption of said film where he is the main protagonist.★ Within the Death Note universe, Misa is a famous model, singer and actress who is infatuated with Light Yagami. He has been shown to slightly consider feeling some type of affection for her when first meeting as she blushes at him when he compliments her on explaining, however he feels that "developing feelings is how most idiots screw up" as he says in his head. She usually refers to herself in the third person by calling herself "Misa-Misa" to be cute, although this is omitted in the English dub of the anime, and she tends to be hyperactive.★ Nate River (ネイト・リバ), universally referred to by the mononym Near (ニア), is a fictional character who is one of the main antagonists in the manga series Death Note. Near is the younger of the two successors of L who was investigating both the methods and identity of Kira, the in-universe name given to the mysterious serial killer who murdered criminals by means of the eponymous Death Note.★ Mello (Mihael Keehl) is the older of L's two potential successors raised in Wammy's House, Watari's orphanage for gifted children, in Winchester, England, United Kingdom. When it is decided that Mello should work with the other successor, Near, Mello refuses, citing an inability to work with Near, to whom he is considered second in ability.★ Ryuk (リューク) is a fictional character of manga and anime series Death Note created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. In the series, he is a Shinigami bored with the activities (or lack thereof) of the Shinigami Realm, so he decides to obtain a second Death Note and drop it in the human world for someone to find, hoping to relieve his boredom. He succeeds in tricking the Shinigami King out of a second Death Note.
